So, who's the Bogle?

A Bogle is a goblin-like character from northern English and Scottish folklore. 'Bogle' and 'Bogey' come from the Middle-English, 'bugge' and the German for goblin, 'böggel-mann'.

Most people pronounce it 'boggle,' (rhyming with 'toggle') but we'd have to ask the Bogle himself to be sure if that's right!

Bogles are mischief-makers but harmless to humans. Our local Bogle was the inspiration for the name of our Lake District holiday cottage.  He hides out at Bogle Crag which you can walk to from the barn - take the trail around Grizedale Forest and see if you can spot any signs of him!
